2015 SIVA CHAMPIONS!
For the fourth year in a row, our Texas A&M Men's team claimed the SIVA Championship! Held in Frisco, Texas at Fieldhouse USA, our boys came into the tournament seeded second. After losing to Texas in the Crossover tournament held just a few weeks prior, the Aggies were determined to charge to the finals where they would most likely meet top-seeded Texas. In the morning pools, A&M was matched up with LSU B, UNT B and Oklahoma State A. These three teams were no match for the Ags as they powered through the competition, ready for bracket play. In the first round, A&M met UT Arlington and the Aggies made quick work of the Mavericks, winning in two sets. A&M then met LSU in the semifinals in a rematch of last year's championship game. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they faced the same result as last year: a two-set defeat at the hands of the Aggies.
In what was the most anticipated match up of the day, the Aggies finally had their shot at redemption when they met Texas in the SIVA Championship. The team was firing on all cylinders as they defeated the Longhorns in two sets, en route to a record 19th conference championship.
Cameron Shoffner and Drew Fields received all-conference honors and our very own Russell Corbelli was named Most Outstanding Player in SIVA for the 2015 season. Congrats to the Aggies!
Our Second team also had quite the eventful SIVA championship. The Aggies found themselves in the Silver bracket after defeating Texas State B in three very close sets. They would meet Trinity in the first round, winning in three sets. In the second round, they met Oklahoma, a team that had previously beaten the Aggies. After a close first set that they ended up dropping, the Aggies never looked back as they took set two by force, 25-9 and preceded to win the match by closing out the Sooners in the third game. In the Silver championship game, our boys met Baylor A, another team that had beaten our second team previously. After battling the entire game, Baylor pulled it out in three very close sets. Congrats to our second team for finishing 10th in SIVA, taking down several first teams in the process.
